Rehearsals begin Aug. 24 (Mon.-Thurs., 7-11 p.m.; Sat. & Sun., 10 a.m.-5 p.m.); runs Sept. 25-27 & Oct. 2-4 in Riverside, CA.

(The Roles of Marry Poppins and George Banks have already been cast.)

Bert: (Lead) manly but warm; inexplicably has a variety of occupations: match man, pavement painter, chimney sweep, hurdy-gurdy player; a friend of Mary Poppins; always nearby to watch the children and observe the goings on in Cherry Tree Land; song and dance man; excellent tap dancer; Cockney accent; baritone to G; no fear of heights.

Mrs. Brilli: (Supporting) the housekeeper; always complaining that the house is understaffed; most of the time her intimidating exterior barely masks the warmth underneath; big, bosomy, and harassed; barks rather than speaks; doesn't have a high opinion of nannies in general and Mary Poppins in particular; alto.

Miss Andrew/Birdwoman: (Supporting) can play older; George's old nanny; overbearing lady with a huge trumpeting voice; beak-nosed, grim-mouthed; small, peering bespectacled eyes; a bully who only knows one way of doing things--her way; soprano with alto belt. Birdwoman is covered in a patchwork of old shawls, her pockets are stuffed with bags of crumbs for the birds; sings "Feed the Birds."

Robertson (Supporting): Male, 18-25, All Ethnicities house boy to the Banks family; lazy, sleepy, and grumbling; never gets things right, so believes himself to be useless; tenor.

Admiral Boom/Chairman: (Supporting) one actor plays both. Boom: retired; a man who has a loud and booming voice; speaks in navy jargon; baritone. Chairman: an Edwardian stuffed shirt; head of the bank.

Ensemble: (Chorus / Ensemble) 12 men/9 women: Neleus, Mrs. Corry, Valentine, Katie Nanna, Miss Lark, Park Keeper, and Policeman will be cast from Ensemble; tap and gymnastics a plus.

Michael Banks: (Lead) the cute and cheeky son of Mr. and Mrs. Banks; excitble and naughty; adores his father and tries to be like him; both he and Jane misbehave in order to get the attention of their parents; range: A3-E5.

Jane Banks (Supporting): 11-12, All Ethnicities the high-spirited daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Banks; bright and precocious but can be willful and inclined to snobbishness; range: A3-F#5.

Winifred Banks: (Supporting) George's wife and Jane and Michael's mother; a former actress, she is a loving and distracted homemaker who is busy trying to live up to her husband's desire to only associate with "the best people" as well as be a model wife and mother; suffers from the conflicting feelings that she's not up to the job of "being Mrs. Banks" yet, though she is, and more; has a great warmth and simplicity to her tone; range: A3-D9.
