Performance Riverside's Quilters Relives Stories of Pioneer Women
Performance Riverside's new production of Quilters stitches together a visual and musical history of this American art form through the story of pioneer Sarah McKendree Bonham and her six daughters. Anyone who has a family quilt and remembers their grandmother reminiscing about the stories stitched into each scrap of cloth, will connect with this heartwarming piece of theatre.
Quilters opens at the Landis Performing Arts Center on November 11, 2005 and features a talented cast of Equity actors and local professional artists. The musical is adapted from the critically acclaimed book The Quilters: Women and Domestic Art, an Oral History and was developed by actress-writer Molly Newman, Stage and television actress Teri Ralston directs the all-female cast. Ralston is known for her work in the original Broadway productions of Stephen Sondheim's Company and A Little Night Music, as well as appearances on Fraiser, Dharma and Greg, Married with Children, and Murder She Wrote.
Working with music and lyrics by Barbara Damashek, Ralston is joined by Equity artist Brenda Cox who plays family matriarch Sarah and first appeared with Performance Riverside 20 years ago in Showboat. Also appearing on stage are Jennifer Pryor, a veteran of Performance Riverside's 2005 productions of Ragtime and Fiddler on the Roof, and accomplished stage actresses Kathryn Skatula, Terri Bibb, Stephanie Wall, Laurel Hatfield, and Amy Hitchcock.
