Performance Riverside celebrates Broadway's latest and Greatest with SENSATIONAL SHOWTUNES
Twenty Broadway shows are coming to Riverside...and you can see them all in under two hours. Sensational Showtunes, presented by award-winning Inland Empire theatre Performance Riverside, celebrates the best and brightest the Great White Way has to offer in this tribute to today's hit musicals. The show, the fourth in Performance Riverside's 2006-2007 Broadway Series, opens March 30th and runs through April 8th. It's a cabaret style, interactive, theatre party that will become the first in an annual tradition for Performance Riverside's performers and their patrons...a sumptuous buffet of current Broadway tunes.
Sensational Showtunes features fresh new songs from Mary Poppins, Wicked, Avenue Q, Hairspray, Spamalot, The Producers, Mama Mia, and Jersey Boys; songs from long-running hits like Rent, Chicago, Phantom of the Opera, Les Miserables, and Beauty and the Beast; and a sneak preview of our 2007-2008 season: West Side Story, Seussical, The King and I, and Thoroughly Modern Millie.
Sensational Showtunes will be performed by a "Who's Who" of regional onstage talent, including Danny Michaels and Orlando Alexander of February's Will Rogers Follies, Chanlon Kaufman from last November's Dreamgirls, Debbie Prutsman from Ragtime and Sweeney Todd, John LaLonde and Jamie Senesac from Damn Yankees, Victor Hernandez from 2006's Music Man, Renee Jensen from Oklahoma and The Threepenny Opera, and Cassandra Murphy from 2003's The Wizard of Oz.
Sensational Showtunes is directed by award-winning director Gary Krinke, choreographed by Dreamgirls and Will Rogers Follies director John Vaughan, and features Musical Director Scott Smith at the piano, Jeff Stover on the stand up bass and Bobby Dominquez on the drums.
Rey O'Day, Producing Artistic Director, observes that "Sometimes we have to wait five to ten years to present these shows; Sensational Showtunes introduces us to them today. And then there is this talented cast of singers and dancers: in this cabaret format the audience will meet them as interesting people."
